It has been quite an exciting past month! Starting just a few weeks ago with a simple Facebook page to create awareness for a unique building in the City of St. Louis that was about to get the wrecking ball, and still might - the building at 212 S. Grand - better known as the former Del Taco.
That page, within the matter of a few days exceeded my wildest expectations, and created a local media storm, and within the matter of a few days, the site garnered over 12,000 Fans.
Several other blogs, sites, and Facebook pages exist dealing with architectural preservation, however, there was not a good site for just sharing nostalgia and pop culture memories. So, I created the Preserving St. Louis Facebook page, and in the matter of a couple weeks, it garnered 800 users, and many great conversations from folks who grew up in St. Louis in the 20th century recalling people, places, and things of the past.
This Blog is an outgrowth of the website - more detailed posts will be available here, and when a new blog entry is posted, it will be posted on our Facebook page. If you have found this page and are not a fan of our Facebook page, please click on the box on the right and like our page.
I will continue posting photos, links, and other blurbs on the Facebook page, but at least once a week, if not more, I will feature a more in depth look at a subject here.
I am always looking for pictures of places throughout the St. Louis area, particularly from the 50s-90s, and you can always send them to me at mbatchelor@gmail.com. I will also consider outside submissions on the blog if you have a subject you would like to write in depth on.
Tell a friend, and enjoy!
